Dear
brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ. Recently I came a cross mother who
complained about her children, being quiet nasty, not listening to her, not having
the faith. She said to me something very interesting that father I hope, I
could have got a chilled like mother Mary had a chilled like Jesus. So sweet,
so nice what a blessed life she had, no problems at all with her son Jesus?
How
many of you thing that mother Mary’s life as blessed as that? Raise your hands.
We are all waiting of second coming
of Christ, right? Yes, all of us are waiting for second coming of Christ. Now
let me ask a question, not for men but only women especially mothers. How many
of you would have loved to be the mother of Jesus in a second coming? Can you
raise your hands?
Many of you would be very happy to
become the mother of Jesus at his second coming, why? Because it is second
coming. And in the first coming he is already revealed himself as the son of
God. And therefore in our Christian cercal when you become the mother of Jesus
in a second coming that would be glories, you would be venerated as second
mother of Jesus. But when we look in to the life of our blessed mother it was
not so glories as we exalted to be today. The whole life of blessed mother was
one of misery and pain.
When the angel Gabriel came to her and made
an announcement, greetings favored one, till
that time everything was ok. And then the angel said, you will bear a son that’s where things started to change.
Dear
brothers and sisters, why do we thing
that Mary was chosen to be the mother of God? Because of her Holiness and in those days if
any women conceived before marriage would be stone to death, knowingly our
blessed mother said big yes to God. There are conflicting ideas about how old
Mary was? They say anywhere between 11to16 years old. Just imagine a little
girl conceived in a village before marriage, how people would have been looked
up on her Purity?
After
message from an angel she went to meet her cousin Elizebeth, she is pregnant
with the chilled and she makes long journey towards her cousin Elizebeth. It
was not easy. Her journey was in utter poverty, she didn’t do it in comfort. In
the Gospel of Lk 2:7 we read how
poor Mary was; after birth of Jesus the word says very clearly,
“And she gave birth to her firstborn son
and wrapped him in bands of cloth”
She wrapped him in bands of cloth. How many of you mothers over here? Why would you wrap the chilled in one piece
of cloth? It keeps heat or warm to the chilled. But mother Mary it not even
had one piece of cloth to wrap her chilled, utter poverty.
Again Lk 2:24, tells us the they gave, they offered a sacrifice according to what is stated in the law of the
Lord, a pair of turtle dove or two young pigeons.
If we go back to the book of
Leviticus, we will read very clearly about the offerings; the rich would offer
the bulls, those who are in middle class would offer goats and the poorest of
the poor would offer a dove, that’s what they offered. Mary and Joseph had only
dove – utter poverty.
And
even after the birth of Jesus not even one word of encouragement she got about
Jesus. The word tells us that she went to the temple to present the chilled;
there Prophet Simeon looked at her and said, a sword will pierce your heart. Those are not encouraging words –
those are disturbing words. How much nervous the mother would have been?
Yes,
dear brothers and sisters why is it?
Today when we look at her we feel her life was blessed, why do we look at her and think that her life was blessed?
I
would say it was because of her attitude to life. The way she carried her cross
was beautiful. How she carried the cross
and what was the secret? There was only one secret that she held on to her
son. She held on to Jesus and whenever she had problems, it was Jesus who was
there with her.
That
is why we see only one time in the Bible mother Mary showing her tenseness.
When Jesus was lost in the temple, when the Lord is not with her there she
showed her worries. Mother Mary gives us indication how to go through life? By
holding on to her son Jesus.
Why many of us worried about families? Why many of us worried about children and
their education, their life and their future? Because Jesus was lost in the
families, Jesus is not there in the communities. When mother Mary knew that
Jesus was not there with her what she did? She went and searched. And she
founded Jesus at the temple.
Dear
brothers and sisters, whenever you feel that your alone or lost in the society
or family problems; hold on mother Mary’s hand and walk she will teach you how
to walk with her son Jesus Christ than you will see the miracles in your life.
The
miracles are performed only by Jesus (or) in the name of Jesus, not by mother
Mary but the intercession is by mother Mary. That’s why at wedding at Cana we
read mother Mary coming and interceding, she looked at Jesus and said, they have no wine than Jesus looked at
her and said, woman, what is it with you
and me? My time has not yet come. After that Mary said to the servant, do
whatever he tells you to do. And she walks off.
Dear
brothers and sisters, one person who changed the mind of Jesus was our blessed
mother. Therefore hold on to Jesus so that you will see miracles in your life
and also hold on to mother Mary and she will teach you how to walk with Jesus
as elegantly as she walked by carrying the cross. Amen ….
