The B.Th
Comprehensive Examination of the academic year 2011 – 2012 was held on the 29th,
30th and 31st of August, 2011. This year’s result is
really amazing! It is the best result of the past 38 years. I am one of the
students who sat for this exam; and it is my privilege to share with you my
experience of studying theology in Morning Star College. I observe the faculty
members put in their best efforts resulting from many years of teaching
theology. I notice theology students show great interest, commitment and love
of studying theology. Curiosity, critical questions and wonder abound in them
while dealing with mysterious of our faith. The faculty members maintain
cordial relationship towards us that invites us to feel free to approach them,
individually and in group, for interactive sessions to share our thoughts and
clarify our doubts and difficulties. This atmosphere of trust and cordiality is
being noticed in many areas of our life in the seminary.
Imparting knowledge
for all around development of the students, with special emphasis on
intellectual and pastoral formation, is the way in which Morning Star College
functions which is located in a defining manner in the eastern part of our
country. It seems wisdom shines forth from the East! As for me, coming from the
southernmost part of our country, I feel that this college represents a mini India
where one encounters students from the North and the South, from the East and
the West forming a multicultural, multiracial and multilingual synthesis of thought
and behaviour towards a common ecclesial goal.
The concerted efforts of the staff and
students as well as students’ study culture are really seen in the
extraordinary achievement of 100% result of the 30 students who appeared this
year for the B.Th Comprehensive Examination: 9 passed with Distinction, 14
achieved First Class, and 7 obtained Second Class! Out of 10 examiners, 4 were
externals, invited from various Theological Colleges, including JDV, Pune.
Behind the
success story of every team, there stands a person. And we have one. It is none
other than Professor Dr. John Romus, the Dean of Theology, who sees to the
needs and demands of the Department of Theology, and seeks to provide the best:
best Professors and best possibilities that we may – each in our given capacity
– excel in our attempts. Excellence is the way he looks at our achievements,
however small they might be. Self-respect is the style with which he interacts
with us.
As we are about
to bid adieu to our Alma Mater in a month’s time, I, on
behalf on my classmates, take this opportunity to thank Rev. Fr. Dr. Vincent
Aind, the Rector; Rev. Fr. Dr. John Romus, the Dean of Theology; Rev. Fr. Dr.
Christudhas, our Class Animator; and all our honourable Professors and Spiritual
Directors for their best and selfless service in our formation. God bless them!
Bro. Victor Albert Leo CPPS
